Jiro decided that he needed to start training to rid his village of the infected. Knowing this, he decided to further his training with the Chakra Gates. He finds a secluded location in a forest far from anyone else. "All those people.... I can't let my village just crumble away like that!" He thought as he raised a hand to his head, closed his eyes, and performed a handsign. "1st Gate, open!" he shouted. He felt a sudden surge of energy. Faster than before, he ran to a tree and put his fist right through it. He ripped his hand out of the tree and it toppled over. He started kicking another tree rapidly until the dents were past the middle of the tree and until it was getting so wobbly and weak that it, too, fell over.
He decided to continue traveling for awhile, until he reached a wide open area. Now he wanted to test how well he could do without a gate activated. He tried to punch through a tree with sheer strength alone, but could only dent it slightly. Then he tried to kick a tree down, but could only chip a few branches and leaves off. "If I'm this weak without a gate activated, I need to get ALOT stronger... this is going to be a long road ahead of me." he thought, taking a break to bandage up the wounds he had sustained from the physically straining exercises he was putting himself through.
The next day, he was fully rested and determined to spend the whole day improving himself, physically and a little bit mentally. For a good thirty minutes he sat down and practiced his Chakra control before getting to the physical part, the part he was really determined to improve upon. He started by opening the first gate again, and then, with a chop to the tree with his katana, sliced it in half, right down the middle as they went off in their respective directions. Then he cut a tree horizontally at an amazing speed, half of it fell down in the opposite direction, while the other half remained a stump. Then he did some Sharingan training. He tried to cut a moving fly in half with his katana. At the moment, he failed in doing so, but was determined to try again later, perhaps when he got his second or third tomoe.
Now resting for awhile, he gazed up at the clouds and the birds overhead, hoping that there was still hope to save his village and the people in it. He came to the conclusion that he had to train twice as hard as this every day in order to help out in such a dangerous conflict. He tightened his fist and closed his eyes, and then punched the tree behind him with all his might. When he opened his eyes, he was disappointed, yet not at the same time. He didn't put his fist through the tree, but he knew he'd be able to take it down without any gates some day. All of a sudden he felt a rush of power surge through him. Strangely, he felt as if he was healed. It felt equivalent to about a day's worth of laying in bed, which isn't possible without a gate being activated. He came to the conclusion that this was the second gate, the so-called "Gate of Healing". Satisfied with what he had accomplished today, he decided to set up camp and get some rest to try again later.
