| Surname: Kaigan (悟り; Literally meaning " Enlightenment") Clan Classification: Body Kekkei Genkai name: Light Release: 太陽吸収, Literally meaning "Solar Absorption" Clan History: Long ago before the Great Nations had properly established themselves as world superpowers, there was a wide diversity of clans that held small areas of land all over the world. One of these was the Kaigon clan. In fact, this clan was a very powerful force amidst the other small sects. They had claimed the Desert, where Sunagakure currently stands, as their home. And for this reason, they were so mighty. The Kaigon had retained powers based on the element of light. Little is known about the exact origin of this clan; it could have been some sort of mutation or even an acquired skill by an experimental shinobi. There were once texts that explained the true origin of this clan and the legend of its evolution, but they were all destroyed. Back to the story though, this clan had the power to absorb all light within a particular area when they activated their Kekkai Genkai. The amount of light they absorbed would determine how powerful their kekkai genkai would be during that instant. Considering they were in the desert where the sun shone brightly without any wildlife shrouding its rays, the clans' shinobi were strongest here. Even during the night, there were so many stars shining so brightly, not to mention the moon, that they were capable of defeating any opponent at any given time. The light they absorbed would strengthen them physically, give them additional chakra, and allow them to use special jutsu unique to their clan. Men and women within the clan were all capable of using this ability, so the military capabilities of this clan brought them far. They were a rather neutral clan, not really fighting, but defending themselves when they had to. They would get involved in some situations where they believe proper arbitration was necessary, but overall they kept to themselves. They were able to sustain a stable community and even construct a trading agreement with other nearby villages. They weren't omnipotent or incredibly rich, but the clan prospered moderately and there was never a real crisis that wasn't attended to efficiently. They were organized, strategically placed, and diligent. When nations began to gather to form alliances for the sake of war and domination, the Kaigon purposely avoided any relations with other nations. Trading agreements did not change and previous relations were not disbanded, but the Kaigon were content with their current situation. Thusly, they thought that by staying out of things completely, they would have no enemies and things would merely pass by normally. This plan worked as well, but nothing can last forever. It all started on a spring morning during a normal trading procedure. A team of two Chuunin, one ANBU, and one Jounin all ventured off from the main village to perform an exchange at another nearby village located in what is currently known as Konohagakure. Nothing was amiss for the Kaigon shinobi; their venture towards the rally point was normal. The two parties of shinobi from each village met up at a bridge near a safe-house. This safe-house held two Jounin rank shinobi from the opposing village; they merely watched over any incoming shinobi/unwanted invaders. So, at the bridge the leading Jounin walked towards the other group of shinobi with the ANBU to conclude this exchange; the ANBU was there simply for security reasons, it was a regular ideal of the Kaigon clan. Each shinobi made friendly small talk as the transfer was completed, but when the Kaigon Jounin went to sign off the scroll, three incoming kunai with explosive tags hit the ground near the cargo. The Chuunin who was unloading the cargo didn't have enough time to react and the blasts severely injured him. This was the Chuunin from the opposing village. The attackers quickly showed themselves to be part of a violent faction, whose goal was to conquer and control, as many nations had come to want to do recently. They demanded the traded goods along with three hostages, or else everyone would die. The attacking party had used some sort of cloaking jutsu; there was around three units of four shinobi in each unit. The Kaigon unit teamed up with that other unit from the opposite village, but they were outnumbered. One of the Chuunin was already down and the medic was doing her best to stabilize him. Long in the short, the odds were 2:1, but the Kaigon were more powerful than anyone really imagined. The battle was easily won. The Kaigon had wiped the floor of those ruthless war junkies. Unfortunately, this identified the Kaigon as a potent force on the map; they were not to be reckoned with. Afraid this defensive maneuver would upset other nations, the Kaigon prepared for war, but the opposite happened. Many saw the Kaigon as a valuable ally and many nations began quarreling over whose side the Kaigon would be on. Never once were the Kaigon allowed a say in the matter, not that it would matter anyway. Battles were being held over the fate of the Kaigon and when they chose to be on no one's side, a massacre soon brewed. More nations started to accumulate as solitary forces, and eventually a few of them thought the Kaigon to be an annoyance. If they would not pick a side, they would merely be another obstacle. So a major assault was planned on the Kaigon nation. Allied ninja from around the world came to amass a force strong enough to eliminate the Kaigon once and for all. Once the Kaigon were attacked, it was all over. the battle was long and treacherous, but the Kaigon were simply outnumbered. Their skill and precision outmatched nearly every other nation, but the constant waves of relentless shinobi wore them down. No sleep, no rest, no reinforcements; they would only hold off for so long. The Kaigon's leaders knew this as well, so they staged a final stand while evacuating as many people as they could. Many people died, and only a hundred and some were actually able to escape the demise of the Kaigon. they went into hiding, deep within the desert so that they would not be found. Ironically, the nation that had worked so hard to decimate the Kaigon suffered such heavy losses that they were easily destroyed soon after their conquest of the Kaigon. The Kaigon's remnants lived on deep within the desert, barely surviving and slowly rebuilding. They knew that they would never amass to what they once were, but at least they could promise the safety of a new generation. So they waited and waited, until the chaos of war settled to a boil and the boundaries of the five nations were drawn. Remnants of the Kaigon set out to villages around the world to settle down and pass on their gift to a new child. There would never be many Kaigon and they may never be recognized but the Kaigon were too proud to let their bloodline die off. Luckily, the gene for their bloodline was dominant so the chances of their survival was increased. No one may remember them now, however they live on and their power still lurks in the world, hidden from the masses. Only the new generation of children may unlock the potential of a forgotten power.
