Personality: Chris Hansen is an extremely serious man when it comes to protecting children all over the United States from pedophiles and online predators. When he is not working, Chris Hansen spends his time honing his skills as one of the most successful protectors of the innocent in the whole world.

When challenged to a battle, Chris Hansen will only accept if there is a reasonable suspicion that they are a child predator and shows absolutely no mercy if they are. When there is no pedophilia involved, Chris Hansen is a normal man. But as soon as there is even a rumor of injustice against children, he becomes a fighting machine that not even God himself can contain. He's tried before, and it only ended with him taking a seat over there while he read him the chat log.

A brief example of what Chris Hansen can do.

The chatroom visitors are eventually led to believe that the supposed minor is home alone, and come inside the house or to an agreed-upon location, seeking sexual activity from the decoy. Soon after meeting the decoy, they are confronted by Hansen, at which point the decoy leaves.

Hansen questions each one at length about their intentions. Some leave immediately upon seeing Hansen, because they recognize that he is clearly not a teenager, or they have seen him in previous Dateline destructions of their cohorts. Hansen, without initially identifying himself, interviews the suspects about their intentions, and also reads aloud some of the graphic portions of the chat to inform them that the logs were indeed recorded. Those who have not seen Hansen's Dateline investigations before often assume he is either the child's father. After a few minutes of questioning, Hansen identifies himself as a Dateline NBC correspondent and informs the visitor that the entire interview has been recorded on hidden camera as part of the Dateline NBC Slaughter. Then, Dateline crew members with large cameras and microphones reveal themselves, and the person is offered a chance to make a final statement before being destroyed by his might.

During last rights issued at the mercy of Chris Hansen, suspects often claim not to have any idea how old the supposed minor is, even when confronted by Hansen with chat logs showing the decoy clearly identifying him or herself as a minor. In some jurisdictions, online solicitation with the belief that the other person is a minor is a crime, regardless of whether the other person actually is a minor.
